SMEDIAS 2009

So I've just about come down from cloud nine after the events that unfolded last Thursday in Dublin's Mansion House...
I won News Photographer of the year and to say I'm delighted is a little bit of an understatement! I got the best presenter of the night, Senator David Norris...! He bigged up my category so much and made me feel like everyone in the room had their eyes on me the moment he called out my name as the winner of the award - it was such an Oscar moment for me but luckily I didn't cry ;-). The whole night was just awesome and so well organised - so big up to Oxygen.ie and 3 for doing such a great job. I can't wait for next year's awards! Also, congrats to Peter Murray and Rob O'Connor who got photographer and sports photographer of the year making DIT Temple Bar the sole winner of each and every one of the photography awards. :-)
Here some pics of the night:

Happy Birthday
It was my dad's birthday yesterday so this post is dedicated to him! I got him a potato barrel. You grow potatoes in it. I couldn't have bought him a better pressie though, I know he'll be talking 'bout these potatoes when he's growing them, after he's eaten them and for many years to come and how they were the nicest potatoes he's ever tasted. Only time will tell! Hehe

The Wife

Joanna was my model here and she was amazing! I was away last weekend in Carraig Eden for leader training and I was on the phone to my friend Pearse talking about how good Joanna was at modeling when a guy walked into the bedroom I was staying in and i wasn't paying attention to him when I started saying how good Joanna was with her body and that she knows how to move, etc. Of course, I was talking about the photographs but your man didn't take it up that way! Hahaha.

That 13 year old father...
Yesterday It was announced that Alfie is going to join Fathers For Justice. He said it was convenient as he already had a spidey costume.

New Site...
I never made a post about it on here. Well, I finally decided what to do with the site. I want to have a site that is easily updated and I've found the perfect solution.
Indexhibit
I'm chuffed with my site just because of the sheer simpleness of it! However, it's not completely finished... Check out here:

So sad about the news! I had a feeling that all things weren't right a while ago but quickly dispelled the thought. Damn - I'm so annoyed, well... not annoyed, really. More disappointed. I really thought they'd be the next big Irish band to break out of Ireland. It's so hard for bands to get out of here and make a living for themselves! :-(
As was said on their message board, I'm looking forward to the new album, however tainted it is now.
Here's some of my fave photos of the lads that I've taken:

Front Cover

Got my first front cover, which I'm happy with. It's with Alcoholics Anonymous in America so it's got a pretty big circulation, which is cool. My photo is of the wine glass on the right.

Update
So a few things have happened in the past while but I'd rather focus things on 2009. Initially, I had such a good feeling about it... Maybe it was all those happy new year texts I was sending out but that good feeling has been tainted by the never ending talk about the recession. I'm so sick and tired of hearing about it. I know it sucks but I just want to get through it without too much moaning!! I remember thinking that the recession was going to be a good thing, because Ireland seemed to have got too cocky and big for its boots. Some social groups with money just weren't nice people at the end of the day... I thought a bit of a recession might kick them up the arse and they might begin to be nice to each other again. I think it's getting there but I think I'm more inclined to say that after hanging out with a few Dun Laoghaire heads over the past few days who are just dead nice at the end of the day. They'd run a mile for you, no questions asked. They are the people of Ireland was famous for before "everyone" got rich off the Celtic Tiger - I hope it returns to them soon.
In other news, I've got a few ventures over the next month and a half that I'm looking to. One of my resolutions for '09; is to see more of our beautiful island. I'm going hiking next Friday/Saturday in the garden of Ireland, Co Wicklow.
Then next Tuesday, I'm off to Achill with a few college heads for a few nights. I cannot wait!!! I want to get out of Dublin for a break before I get stuck into college again and get murdered with projects to do.
At the end of the month, I'm going up towards my Gran's homeland territory to stay in Newcastle, Co Down, which should contain a nice few sessions. Good crowd going!
The following weekend, I'll be heading back up that neck of the woods again to meet up with a few friends I haven't seen in too long. I gotta be back in Dublin the next day for rock climbing in Dalkey Quarry and can feel the ensuing hangover already...
By that time, I'll be back in college for the second semester of the year... As I said earlier in the post, I want to see more of Ireland so I hope that mid year trips are a plenty.
Here's two photographs from my last project at college, which was an absolute disaster. These photos were the only ones I ended up liking by the end of it:

The idea behind it was whether you could add things to places and the resultant would be art. A pretty simple idea but I'll be going into it in more detail in 2009.

Ehhhh... the conditions those pigs are in would put you off eating the meat. Truel disgraceful. Anyone else see the RTE News footage?
